Why Struktur

01

Five highlight services

Face-frame, partial, full, highlights with lowlights and partial lowlights each have their own price and time, so you pay for the amount of hair you are colouring.

02

Most clients choose partial

Ute says most highlight clients book a partial, and many add a toner or an Olaplex treatment. Tell us which you want and we set aside the time for all of it.

03

Time set aside properly

Highlights run two to three hours, depending on the service, and need an early enough start to finish before we close. Ask for an earlier appointment.

Foil highlights, and how they work

In a foil highlight your colourist takes a fine section of hair, applies lightener and folds it into foil. The foil keeps the lightener on the strand you chose and away from the hair around it, so the brightness lands exactly where it was placed. Because the sections start close to the root, the lift is clean and even.

That makes foils a good choice when you want clear brightness, a lighter overall tone or a defined frame around the face. It also means the line where new growth begins is easier to see as your hair grows out, so ask your colourist how that will look on your hair.

Full, partial or face-frame: choosing your coverage

Full highlights work through the whole head. Partial highlights concentrate on the top and around the face. Face-frame highlights are the smallest set, a few strands around the face to brighten it.

  • Face-frame. $105 with a blow-dry, or $72 without styling. About two hours.
  • Partial. $149 with a blow-dry, about two hours and 45 minutes, or $125 without styling.
  • Full. With a blow-dry, $149 for short hair and $189 for long hair. About two and a half hours.

Ute says most of our highlight clients book a partial.

Highlights with lowlights

Lowlights are darker strands woven back through lighter hair. They add depth, so the colour does not look flat. Highlights and lowlights together are $150 for a full head and $129 for a partial, both about two hours, with styling extra. Partial lowlights on their own, with a style, are $149 and take about two hours.

If you are growing out grey, the same mix can blend it so the change is gradual.

Foils or balayage?

Foils give a clean, defined lift that starts near the root. Balayage skips the foil: the lightener is brushed on by hand, so the result grows out more softly, and it is $289. If that sounds closer to what you want, read our balayage page. Some looks use both, and your colourist can tell you which mix suits your hair. The hair salon overview has everything else we do.

Toner and Olaplex with your highlights

Ute recommends a toner and an Olaplex treatment with highlights for the best finish, and most guests add both. Once the hair has lightened, a toner adjusts the tone. Prices start at $28 for a partial toner, with a full toner at $38 and a toner with a blow-dry from $78. Olaplex or K18 starts at $20. See Olaplex and K18, or all-over hair colour.
